Submissions

Highlander Press currently accepts submissions for original manuscripts or book proposals for review. We publish both fiction and nonfiction titles, so our submission guidelines are broken down separately for each.

Review our Frequently Asked Questions page before continuing.

General Submission Guidelines

Please ensure that your submitted document adheres to the following guidelines. Failure to adhere to these will result in your draft either being returned to you for correction—which will put your project behind schedule—or rejected outright.

Please do an edit of your manuscript before submitting it. If we find countless typos, mistakes, or plot holes in your manuscript, your chances of getting a publishing offer are slim. If you’re interested in a developmental edit, please indicate so on your submission.

Submissions which stand out and are well-edited are most likely to be accepted for a publishing deal.

  • Submission must be in Microsoft Word and remitted as a .doc or .docx file
(No Google Docs, Apple Pages. or PDFs).
  • Use 12-point font in Times Roman or 11-point font in Open Sans.
  • Double-spaced.
  • One space after end-of-sentence punctuation.
  • Hard indent for the first line of each paragraph, which means five spaces.
  • NO extra spaces between paragraphs.
  • Margins set at one-inch.
  • Page numbers at the center bottom of each page.
  • Chapters begin on new pages.
